The Event
The International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence (ISBC) is an exciting scientific conference dedicated to exploring the fascinating world of organisms that produce light through chemical reactions. Every two years, scientists from all over the world gather to share their latest research and discoveries related to new systems, theoretical calculations, and applications in ecology, biotechnology, clinical, and environmental fields. The symposium has been held in various locations around the globe since 1961, including Bologna, Monterrey-CA, Cambridge, Yokohama, San Diego, Shanghai, Uppsala, Tsukuba, Nantes, and Gijón.
The International Symposium on Luminescence Spectrometry (ISLS) is another fascinating conference that has been taking place biennially since 1984 in different locations such as Ghent, Nice, Granada, Beijing, Bologna, Taipei, and Gijón. It focuses on luminescence spectroscopy and its various applications.
Now, after many years, the 22nd ISBC and the 20th ISLS will be held together in Fóz do Iguaçu, PR, Brazil, from June 3rd to 7th, 2024. This exciting event will take place near the stunning Iguaçu Falls, a UNESCO natural heritage site and a biodiversity hotspot. The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for companies that supply analytical instrumentation, photodetection equipment, equipment and consumables for sample preparation, and chemicals for diverse luminescence techniques.
We want to make this joint meeting a huge success and create an environment where scientists can exchange ideas, form new collaborations, and connect with old and new friends. The ISBC is also committed to supporting young researchers through various prizes and discounts for emerging country students. The traditional Marlene DeLuca Prize, presented by BERTHOLD GmbH & Co KG, will be awarded to the best presentation, lecture, or poster by a young worker who is under 35 years old at the start of the symposium. Other prizes will be awarded for short presentations and best bioluminescence/chemiluminescence/luminescence photos (first, second and third places).

The Venue
The conference will take place at the Bourbon Hotel, which counts with comfortable meeting rooms, a 400-seat auditorium and, adjacent to it, 500 m2 for commercial exhibition, poster sessions, coffee break aside from all amenities a hotel of this quality can provide. The exhibition area is situated adjacent to the main conference rooms at Ivory complex (Conjunto Marfim, in yellow). Posters and coffee breaks will occur in the same area. Each exhibitor booth has 3×2 m2 and will include a table and two chairs, as well as electrical power supply (127 V single phase, 60Hz, 10A). Sponsors can also request double or triple booths. Tentative Program

The conferences will be divided into four main sections - two in the morning and two in the afternoon, featuring a dynamic line-up of plenary, invited, and regular speakers. With plenary lectures lasting an hour, invited speakers taking the stage for 30 minutes, and regular speakers giving lightning-fast 15-minute talks, there will be something for everyone. But that's not all! During coffee breaks or any time attendees need a breather, they can visit the sponsor's area, which is located close to the presentation rooms and poster exhibition area, including a display of Brazilian diversity of bioluminescent organisms and luminescence demonstrations, in a highly visible location.
